Privatising Royal Mail – Lessons for Australia Post?
How to protect the public interest? How to safeguard public assets and work? How to maintain and improve service? Peter Hunt will discuss the sale of Royal Mail and the various approaches which could be taken here including the option to sell all or part of the business to employees and stakeholders.

The BCCM in association with LBMX is hosting a free webinar with Peter Hunt in the first of our Global Leader Dialogues series. This online event will be a rare opportunity for attendees to chat directly with Peter in a live Q&A session on public service mutuals, Royal Mail and lessons for Australia Post.
12 – 17 March: National Workshop Tour: Making it mutual – Transforming the delivery of public services

Run in partnership with Net Balance, these interactive workshops will be facilitated by international and Australian co-op and mutual experts and practitioners, including Peter Hunt and Les Hems, Net Balance. The workshops will demonstrate the benefits of public service mutuals and how Australian public services could be delivered by co-operatives and mutuals.
Who should attend? The workshops are designed as a ‘how to’ guide for policy makers, local and state government officers, community sector and charities, unions and co-operative and mutuals business leaders to understand the what, why and how of mutualising services for public benefit. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions about the models available, and whether they can work for their organisations.

About Peter Hunt
Peter founded Mutuo in 2001 as the first cross mutual sector body to promote mutual business to opinion formers and decision makers.
He was a co-founder and secretary of Supporters Direct, the football supporters’ initiative, which has gone on to establish over 100 supporters’ trusts at professional football clubs.
He led the Parliamentary teams which piloted four private members bills through the UK Parliament, working with all parties to update co-operative & mutual law and encouraging employee ownership.
He led the Mutuo teams in major constitutional and governance reviews by the Co-operative Group and Nominet. He is a founder member of the management board of the Oxford Centre for Mutual and Employee-owned business, based at Kellogg College, Oxford University.
Since 2004, he has worked closely on a number of public sector structural reforms, including NHS Foundation Trusts, advising both Government and Trust Boards on the adoption of new membership structures. In 2011, he advised the Coalition Government on its plans to mutualise Post Office Ltd and in 2012 published the report of the Ownership Commission, a two year study into corporate diversity.
In 2013 Peter was appointed by Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls to lead a policy review for UK Labour on increasing the role of mutuals in the financial sector and wider economy.
