BCCM’s renewed role in the Small Business and Franchising Consultative Committee (SBFCC)

09 March 2020

BCCM has returned to the Small Business and Franchising Consultative Committee (SBFCC) as a member for 2020-21. The Committee was established by the ACCC to provide a forum where competition and consumer law concerns related to the small business and franchising sectors could be discussed by industry and government.

Members are drawn from a range of areas and include industry associations, small businesses, legal and business advisors and academics, with a focus on ensuring membership represents the interests of the broader small business sector.

Thousands of Australian small businesses improve their competitiveness and sustainability through membership of a co-operative or mutual.

A full list of current members of the SBFCC is available here.

In 2019, BCCM advocated for the interests of co-ops and mutuals in the SBFCC in relation to the proposed Small Business Collective Bargaining Class Exemption and the Franchising Code. BCCM recommended that the Franchising Taskforce confirm that dealings between co-operatives and their members should not fall under the Code, and for the ACCC to provide guidance on the topic.
