This is a 2-hour online program designed to provide a general introduction to the co-ops and mutual industry in Australia and globally.
This course is suitable for anyone new to co-operatives and mutuals and those looking for a refresher and information on the live sector. It can be tailored to your existing induction training program, or your employees can take one of our online classes throughout the year.

The key objective is to educate and inspire people working in the sector to understand more about the unique role and contribution of co-operatives and mutuals to help them in their role in their co-operative or mutual, whether frontline staff, management or directors. It will help build a meaningful connection between the employee and the wider co-operative and mutual sector, as well as strengthen the relationship with their individual employer.
This is achieved through a deeper understanding of the fundamental principles which underpin co-operatives and mutuals as businesses that put purpose, people, and communities at the heart of the enterprise.

Robyn has a background as a practising lawyer and academic at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, NSW. She held the position of Legal Manager for the NSW Registrar of Co-operatives and provided drafting instructions for the Co-operatives National Law. As a consultant she provided advisory services for new co-operative start-ups, and authored the Community Investment Handbook for Australian Co-operatives. Robyn has provided strategic regulatory advice to the BCCM for over 10 years and led the development team for the Co-op Builder, Australia’s only free drafting resource for new co-operative formations. Her later work for the BCCM was to draft the Capital Builder, providing step by step guidance for co-operative fundraising as well as providing content for the BCCM training courses on the BCCM Co-operative Farming website. She is continuing research on fundraising avenues and its regulatory constraints under Australian laws.
David has over 38 years’ experience in the automotive industry and has held senior sales, marketing and general management roles over the past two decades. Prior to his appointment as Capricorn’s Group Chief Executive Officer in July 2019 he was CEO of the co-operative’s Automotive Division from 2013.
Before joining Capricorn in 2006, David was Group General Manager of Supply Direct, a wholly owned subsidiary of ASX-listed Ausdrill, and responsible for its operations in Australia, United Kingdom, South Africa and West Africa. He was also a former Associate Director and Group General Manager of ASX-listed Coventry Group Ltd and was responsible for the sales, marketing and administration of the Group’s automotive businesses. He is a current Director of various Capricorn subsidiary Boards, Councillor of the Co-operatives Federation of WA, and a Director and current Chair of Western Australian Motor Industry Foundation. David is also a former Director and past President of the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association.
