BCCM governance update

05 March 2026

The BCCM is pleased to share with members the appointment of two new directors to the Board: Lorraine Thomas (HCF) and Julian Szafraniec (SGS Economics and Planning).

Lorraine is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of HCF and brings more than 20 years of experience in innovative, customer‑centred product delivery, business strategy and organisational transformation. Since joining HCF in 2015, she has held several senior executive roles and is recognised for her inclusive leadership and focus on improving member outcomes and access to high‑quality care. Lorraine also serves as a Director of HCF Life, Flip Insurance and the Corporate Trustee of The HCF Research Foundation, and is a Director of Private Healthcare Australia.

Julian is the Chief Executive Officer of SGS Economics and Planning and a spatial economist with two decades of experience advising government, not‑for‑profits and the broader for‑purpose sector. He leads an employee‑owned, certified B‑Corp consultancy dedicated to strengthening communities and local economies through evidence‑based public policy. Julian also serves on the Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network’s independent Industry Advisory Committee.

The BCCM also acknowledges Alison Holloway, Principal at SGS Economics and Planning, and Sheena Jack, former CEO of HCF, who are stepping down from the Board. Thank you both for your years of service and dedication to the co‑operative and mutual sector.

The BCCM welcomes Lorraine and Julian to the Board and looks forward to their contributions to the movement. Our thanks to all serving and retiring directors for their commitment to the co‑operative cause.
