Co-op forms as alternative for school P and C associations

Discontent with the troubled NSW Federation of P and Cs has resulted in a group of north shore school P and C associations forming an alternative organisation.

Named the Voluntary Parents Services Co-operative Limited, chairman and Killara High School P and C president David Jordan said members believed the federation was beyond reform.

So far six north shore schools have signed up.

“The laws governing the federation were created in the 70s,” he said.

“The world has changed a lot since then and there’s a whole lot of things which are expected in a modern day business.

“It’s a really big problem; it’s not just the federation it’s the law and a whole lot of issues that need a whole new structure and a whole new approach.”

The new organisation aims to provide expert advice and support as well as cheaper insurance for the school associations dealing with regulation systems such as workplace health and safety, food safety, taxation, employment and superannuation.
