Indigenous Pastoral Stations look to merge

Ten of Australia’s largest Aboriginal-run pastoral stations are preparing to join forces.

The ‘Aboriginal Pastoral Co-op’ will be backed by a Chinese consortium and aims to pool resources between stations to produce better cattle and train more young people.

The Chinese ASF Group could be putting up to $40 million into the Co-op, which already has five Kimberley cattle stations signed up.

Wayne Bergmann is the Chief Executive of KRED Enterprises, the Aboriginal Charitable Trust putting the co-op together.

“We want to get back to the early days where Aboriginal people were the backbone of the pastoral industry,” he said.
