Protecting communities is life blood of co-ops and mutuals

20 August 2024

On Friday BCCM CEO Melina Morrison had another opportunity to make sure BCCM members are heard when it comes to the role of co-ops and mutuals in disaster recovery and resilience. Melina provided evidence about the track record of co-ops and mutuals in responding to disasters at a NSW Joint Select Committee parliamentary hearing into disaster preparedness in the State. The BCCM’s submission argues that the dual economic and social role of co-operatives means they are ideal partners in reconstruction.

Listen to Melina on ABC NSW Country Hour as she discusses how co-operatives and mutuals are ideal partners in disaster recovery and reconstruction, emphasising their economic and social role in empowering communities to rebuild resiliently after natural disasters.

Listen to Melina on NSW Country Hour, 19 August 2024, from 34:15 minutes.
