Trebor Scholz tour kicks off in Adelaide

23 May 2017

Trebor Scholz, Associate Professor at the New School and leading thinker of platform cooperativism, kicked off his Australian tour yesterday with three events in Adelaide.

The next events are in Sydney on 24 May and Melbourne on 25-26 May.

Associate Professor Scholz’s tour is timely, with Twitter stockholders voting overnight (Australian time) on a proposal to investigate a transition to co-operative ownership for the publicly-listed social media platform.

On the back of a social media campaign, the proposal received enough yes votes from stockholders to be reconsidered at the next Twitter AGM.

Platform cooperativism is an international movement that advocates for democratically owned and controlled alternatives to internet platforms and “sharing economy” businesses like Uber and Airbnb.

Trebor’s tour is sponsored by the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals.
