International Day of Co-operatives 2020: Celebrating what makes co-ops great

01 July 2020

Saturday 4th July is the International Day of Co-operatives! It’s a time to look at how we’re all connected in the global co-operative movement.

This year, the celebrations will also focus on the contribution of cooperatives to combating climate change.

Climate change is a global issue from which no country is immune. Greenhouse gas emissions are more than 50 percent higher than in 1990, and global warming is causing long-lasting changes to our climate system.

Climate change severely impacts people’s livelihoods around the world, especially the most disadvantaged groups such as small-scale farmers, women, youth, indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities, who have to cope with extreme natural disasters and degradation of natural resources.

How to get involved

BCCM will use the day to highlight the positive actions that Australian co-operative are taking to address environmental issues, from bushfire response to ethical investment. Please get in touch if you’d like us to highlight a story from your organisation.
