NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held from 7 – 14 July this year. The theme, “Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud”, honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The BCCM encourages all its member organisations to join NAIDOC celebrations in your city, town or region. BCCM staff are spread across several cities and here’s some events the BCCM team is hoping to get to. We hope to see you there.
Monday, 8 July
8:30 – 10 am, Flag Raising Ceremony at Federation Square, Melbourne/Naarm
10:30 am, Flag Raising at Piyura Kitina/Risdon Cove (just outside of Nipaluna/Hobart)
Wednesday, 10 July
NAIDOC in the City (Sydney/Warrane) is presented by Gadigal Information Service Aboriginal Corporation in partnership with the City of Sydney at the Sydney Town Hall
Friday 12 July
10 am, NAIDOC Week march which leaves the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, followed by NAIDOC in the City (Melbourne/Naarm), including the Koori Heritage Trust NAIDOC market
12:15 pm, NAIDOC street march which leaves the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre Nipaluna/Hobart
9 am – 5 pm, Musgrave Park Family Fun Day, Brisbane/Meanjin
