Housing advocates seek federal funding election promise for co-op model

In Bairnsdale, Brooke Kerton and her family are thriving in a housing co-op – an affordable, community-led model offering security, stability, and a sense of belonging. With rent capped at 25 per cent of income and a supportive community vibe, it’s a game-changer for families doing it tough.

Co-operative housing advocates are calling on the federal government to commit $250M over three years to grow co-op housing to 10 per cent of social housing stock. As the election looms, it’s time to put secure, affordable housing front and centre.
