Australian Unity has received Mutual Value Measurement Accreditation from the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM), demonstrating the Group’s ongoing commitment to positively impact its members, customers and the broader community.

Developed in partnership with Monash University, the Mutual Value (MV) Framework assists co-operatives and mutuals to measure and communicate the total positive impact they create beyond financial returns.

Australian Unity was commended by the Expert Panel for its strategic integration of the MV (Framework, particularly in alignment with its Community and Social Value (CSV) methodology.

Speaking at the BCCM and Australian Unity Icons Luncheon on Tuesday 24 June, Rohan Mead, Managing Director and CEO, Australian Unity said the recognition highlights the Group’s dedication to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement.

“As a mutual and social enterprise, we are motivated by our purpose to positively impact the wellbeing of millions.”

“We see significant and growing benefit in measuring community and social value, including being able to capture the essence and value of a mutual-based organisation that financial and accounting standards are not able to do,” said Mr Mead.

Siobhan Henderson, Head of Social Impact & Strategy Manager, said that applying the MV Framework has reinforced the Group’s existing strengths, including embedding its community impact into strategic decision making and identified further opportunities to engage with its membership base.

“Through our CSV approach and the MV Framework, we are better able to capture and understand the value that we deliver for our members, customers and community, and how we bring the Group’s purpose to life.”

Recipients of the MVM Accreditation are evaluated against six criteria: commerciality, shaping markets, member relationships, community relationships, ecosystem and reciprocity, and mutual mindset.
