Our celebration of the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 will culminate in Adelaide this October with the BCCM Summit, featuring a vibrant three-day program. It begins on Thursday, 23 October with the renowned Taste of Australia Dinner at the National Wine Centre, followed on Friday, 24 October by the popular Breakfast on the Hill at SA Government House and the one-day Leaders’ Summit at the world-class Adelaide Convention Centre. The program concludes with an optional tour on Saturday, 25 October to the beautiful Barossa region, home of the Barossa Co-op.
We are excited to announce our international guest speakers:
- Andrew Pakes, Labour (Co-op) MP for Peterborough, UK. Serving as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Mutuals. Andrew has championed co-operative housing, introducing legislation to give renters more security through co-op tenure. His work focuses on expanding the co-operative economy, supporting businesses and communities built on mutual ownership and democratic principles. Andrew is the UK Government envoy for co-ops and mutuals and the commitment to double the size of the mutual economy.
- Shirine Khoury-Haq, Group CEO, Co-operative Group, UK. CEO of one of the world’s largest consumer co-operatives, with more than 5 million members and 2,500 stores. Founded in 1863, Shirine is the first female CEO of The Co-operative Group, having previously served as the COO of Lloyd’s of London.
- Kevin Parry OBE, Chairman Nationwide Building Society. Serving as Chairman of the UK’s largest building society, with over 16 million members. Kevin has previously served on the boards of three FTSE 100 companies and has recently been appointed Chairman of the newly formed Mutuals and Co-operatives Business Council. Until December 2024, Kevin was also Chairman of Royal London, the UK’s largest mutual life, pensions and investment company since 1861.
- Jeroen Douglas, Director General, International Co-operative Alliance. As global head of the international movement. Jeroen leads a sector of more than three million co-ops and mutuals, with 1.2 billion members and more than $2.4 trillion USD turnover. His background in sustainable agriculture and farm supply chains, helping grow the global Fairtrade mark. He led a landmark agreement between the International Co-operative Alliance and Fairtrade International in 2024.
