Scottish Bill amendments reflects co-ops role in communities

A Bill in Scotland intended to give people greater control over local communities across Scotland now recognises the role co-operatives can play in making community ownership and control possible, thanks to the efforts of the co-operative sector.

The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Bill aims to give local communities powers to take control of vital local assets. After campaigning from Co-operatives UK and partners in Scotland, amendments have been made to the Bill that enable communities to use the co-operative model to take ownership and control of assets. The Bill is currently at the third stage of the legislation process when it will be voted on at a later stage.
