Globally renowned social activist and author to visit Australia

24 August 2015

One of the world’s leading figures in the area of social activism and climate change, Naomi Klein will this week be in Australia for the first time in 14 years. The Canadian author, social activist, and filmmaker known for her political analyses and criticism of corporate globalization and of corporate capitalism Klein will headline the Festival of Dangerous Ideas at the Sydney Opera House next month, after a turn at the Melbourne Writers Festival.

She first rose to international prominence for her criticism of corporations, globalisation and economic austerity in books such as No Logo and The Shock Doctrine. While being a strident campaigner on climate change and capitalism, Klein is also a strong supporter of co-operatives and especially worker co-operatives and advocates for more in international economies for their inherent social and economic benefits.

Klein frequently appears on global and national lists of top influential thinkers, most recently including the 2014 Thought Leaders ranking compiled by the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute, Prospect magazine’s world thinkers 2014 poll, and Maclean’s 2014 Power List.
