International delegations visit the BCCM

23 April 2015

Last week, two international delegations from the Brazilian and Vietnamese co-operative sector visited the BCCM as part of their business trips to learn more about the Australian co-operative and mutual sector. Delegations met with the BCCM’s CEO, Melina Morrison, who gave presentations to the delegations on the economic and social benefits of the sector to Australia and its economy.

Brazil has a booming co-operative sector with credit unions accounting for 17 per cent of the country’s bank branches, while Brazil’s Unimed is the world’s largest health co-operative and Copersucar S.A. is one of the world’s largest 300 co-operatives and a major global sugar player. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese co-operative movement has a strong footprint in rural areas, especially in the agricultural sector.

The BCCM is committed to forging relationships with co-operative bodies and movements across the world and will continue with our global partners to spread the positive messages about the co-operative and mutual business model.
