Andrew Leigh addresses our competition roundtable

08 April 2024

On Friday, 5 April, the BCCM held a roundtable on market competition with the Federal Minister for Competition, Dr Andrew Leigh MP. The discussion with BCCM members in agriculture, retail, marketing and buying, was Chatham House, but the Minister has published his opening remarks.

Dr Leigh concluded with these encouraging words: “The Albanese government is enthusiastic about co‑operatives and mutuals because they provide a competitive spur to the economy, a different way of doing things, bringing together collective power in many different sectors of the economy.”

We continue to advocate for enabling measures to enable co-ops and mutuals to deliver value to consumers and help smaller businesses to compete in concentrated markets.
