Defence Bank wins at the Australian HR Awards

Defence Bank has won the 2016 Australian HR Awards Employer of Choice in the less than 1000 employees category which was announced at a gala dinner in Sydney recently. The awards celebrate excellence in the human resources (HR) profession, recognising individuals, teams and companies for their outstanding achievements in people management.

Defence Bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Jon Linehan, said Defence Bank was delighted to be recognised by the broader HR industry. “This award acknowledges the suite of innovative practices we have implemented and a commitment from all staff to make Defence Bank a great place to work.”

“With our employees at the heart of what we do, we are proof that a mutual bank and profit is not a zero sum game and they can co-exist. That’s an environment people can really do well in,” said Mr Linehan.

Among the stand-out practices for which Defence Bank, a BCCM member, was applauded were its collaborative culture, employee recognition programs, career development and continuous learning programs, as well as our organisation’s flexible working arrangements to help support its people and their families.

“As a member owned bank we have a strong sense of improving the lives of our members and channelling our profits to deliver the best possible products and services”, concluded Mr Linehan. The Australian HR Award for Employer of Choice was Defence Bank’s first ever submission into the coveted national award.
